Innovative organisation of the collection and removal of floating waste in marinas along the coast

Coastal Division  of the Agency for Maritime and Coastal Services (department MOW) has the task of protecting the coast and the hinterland against flooding from the sea. In doing so, Coastal Division highly values the various coastal functions and tries to integrate natural values, economic, recreational, touristic and cultural coastal experiences in a sustainable way. Promoting water-related recreation along the coast and in and around coastal marinas plays an important role here. The presence of floating waste in and on the water is a disturbing factor in the coastal experience. For this reason, and to prevent the seas becoming a plastic soup, Coastal Division wishes to continue its efforts to combat floating waste. To this end, it wants to encourage enterprises to innovate in the removal of floating and floating debris in coastal marinas. It will be possible for enterprises to apply their innovations in real conditions. Once the waste has been collected from the surface of the water, consideration must also be given to how the waste can be brought ashore and offered for maximum separation at the final recipients. Innovative steps can also be taken in the possibility of combining a bundled collection and disposal of the port waste with the waste of the marina operators.
